No new Gardaí for Galway despite upcoming influx of tourists – Crowe

Fianna Fáil General Election Candidate for Galway West, Cllr. Ollie Crowe, says he is disappointed no Garda has been assigned to the Galway Division.

This week Gardaí who have passed out from Templemore Garda Training College recently were assigned to Garda Divisions around the country.

Cllr. Crowe said, “It is shocking to me that Galway did not receive any new Gardaí under these assignments. We are a little under four weeks to Galway 2020 commencing. Surely with the expected influx of tourists, we would see an increase in Garda numbers.

“Recently I highlighted my fears around unprovoked attacks which took place in our city at night. Tourists and locals alike have been attacked minutes from Eyre Square in recent weeks. These actions are mindless and have no place in our city.

“There have been no new Gardaí assigned to the Mayo Division as well as the Galway Division this week. It only highlights a continued abandonment of the West and rural Ireland under Fine Gael.

“I have written to the Garda Commissioner and Minister for Justice to express my concerns,” concluded Cllr. Crowe.
